ESPN is even worse they just throw out random names with almost no logic behind them. Kirk Herbstreet continues to be well dressed joke in college football. Interesting poll in the Det News today had Kelly as the top candidate but other was a huge vote getter. To bad Johnson was not on the list to gauge reaction. What is tough is that Midwest TV does not show many Cincy, Navy or Cal games but what I have seen of Navy has been impressive. I think Tedford would be a mistake given some of the Cal upsets. Losing to bad teams is a streak I would like to break. I was interested to see Harbaugh’s name come up. Comments aside he has an interesting resume and should at least be considered. His dad was a UM coach and he has been around the program for years + he started the UM NFL QB legacy. I think Johnson, Kelly, Harbaugh make the best choices that I have heard and are the right ages to provide stability. The whole “big name” or hot team mentality of the list I have seen is stupid. There has to be a belief that the person will love the job, stay long-term, and fit the Bo/Lloyd mold of being a good person 1st and football coach 2nd. So throwing around Pete Carroll or Spurrier is waste of time.

Whatever happens please tell me DeBoard will never coach at UM again!

KevinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-66356322359724952772007-12-03T14:48:00.000-05:002007-12-03T14:48:00.000-05:00Andrew,I strongly disagree about Johnson's ability...Andrew,

I strongly disagree about Johnson's ability to recruit. However, I'm with you on Kelly. Michigan should be looking at Johnson and Kelly at this point. They have the greatest upside of all of the candidates.

JakeJakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16208921021297172480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-55628784844578395612007-12-03T11:07:00.000-05:002007-12-03T11:07:00.000-05:00Mannie,You might be interested in these...http://m...Mannie,

You might be interested in these...

http://motownsportsrevival.blogspot.com/2005/06/dont-pass-on-paul-johnson.html

http://motownsportsrevival.blogspot.com/2007/12/misunderstanding-paul-johnson.html

I've written those in the last week.

Take care!

JakeJakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16208921021297172480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-2399677083431800372007-12-03T10:39:00.000-05:002007-12-03T10:39:00.000-05:00I have bled maize and blue all my life! These las...I have bled maize and blue all my life! These last few years of Carr's coaching tenure have been underachieving to say the least as everyone knows. Never the less I respect him and what he accomplished at Michigan. His retirement has left a HUGE question mark not only at the university, but in the college football world. We are talking about Michigan Football, the ALL-TIME winningest program in NCAA History! We can not just bring in anyone. We are in need of a coach to take us to the next level and bring the championship back to Ann Arbor. The prospects mentioned are accomplished, but I am still nervous about all of them. Les Miles was a solid candidate, but he has chosen to stay at LSU. As for the others, sure they have done well at their current programs, but would they really be able to handle a program with the magnitude and responsiblity that Michigan has? Bobby Petrino is coming out of Atlanta yet. Rich Rodriguez is not leaving WVU. The only name that might be of interest in these candidates now is Paul Johnson. What he has done at Navy is remarkable and it is interesting to see what he would do with a caliber program like Michigan. The talent is a whole hell of alot better. This is a big deal anyway you look at it and whoever takes the job has a lot of work in front of them. I would like someone like Pete Carroll that has his team in the top 10 year in and out. Also I really want someone who can beat Ohio State religiously! Can't those guys schedule anybody worth playing?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-56825581980757171452007-12-02T00:41:00.000-05:002007-12-02T00:41:00.000-05:00Well Miles is off the radar now, judging by his an...Well Miles is off the radar now, judging by his announcment today. I think hiring Rodriguez or Johnson would be a big mistake.. they're good coaches, but their recruting classes haven't been good. Plis, can you imagine Mallett trying to run a spread offense? Tedford and Schiano probably won't be interested, so I think the best option is Brian Kelly. He reminds me a lot of Tressel and Meyer, both of whom have already had great success.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-6912282237821618972007-11-24T18:50:00.000-05:002007-11-24T18:50:00.000-05:00Yike, I'm sorry you didn't get your wish. He could end up being somebody's Pete Carrol.Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16208921021297172480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-52338882002279628682007-11-24T15:33:00.000-05:002007-11-24T15:33:00.000-05:00Good breakdown -- I think you're right on. Hearing names like Spurrier or Cowher there, but I think it will be Pelini if Nebraska doesn't get him first.Arjunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05818337634758279630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-51440736447855897232007-10-29T10:21:00.000-04:002007-10-29T10:21:00.000-04:00Personally, I would like to see Lloyd have a long ...Personally, I would like to see Lloyd have a long career at UM much like JoPa at PSU or Bobby B. at FSU. I feel bad for the East-Coasters. Maybe Rutgers will fire you guys up. The Midwest is all about college football. The fact that it only lasts three-and-a-half months adds to the frenzy.

Later,

JakeJakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16208921021297172480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13718554.post-10437805105395601582007-10-19T05:32:00.000-04:002007-10-19T05:32:00.000-04:00I know this is just my opinion, but I think you ar...I know this is just my opinion, but I think you are an exceptional baseball writer, and I think you are a good basketball writer.
I just don't see the same excitment in the the college football stories. They may stink so badly that they have an opportunity to draft Brian Brohm. Although the Falcons passed on Amobi Okoye, they need a QB in the worst way right now. Given their history at Louisville, this could be the keystone he needs to resurrect the Falcons offense. They already have talented (and terribly underachieving) WRs in Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, et al, and a solid young RB in Jerious Norwood. I could see Petrino in Atlanta for a long time.

Paul Johnson - I like the way you think with Johnson and Nebraska. Sure, I can't stand Nebraska (damn you, Osborne, for getting the retirement present in 1997!!!), but he would be a great hire for the Huskers.

Rich Rodriguez - I agree, he's not going anywhere any time soon. But wouldn't it be ironic if we ended up with Beilein and Rodriguez in consecutive years? WV fans would absolutely HATE Michigan, especially since all they got from us is Ryan Mundy (zing!).

Greg Schiano - I would love to see him at PSU. There seems to be a relative dearth of elite coaching talent in the Big 10 right now. He'd be a great addition once JoePa stops drinking that vampire blood.susieandrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10063926729366897989noreply@blogger.com
